World-renowned guitar master Bruce Cockburn is getting ready to record his 28th collection of songs for his first ever instrumental recording. The album will be produced by Colin Linden and Bruce Cockburn and is scheduled for release in September.

Pieces are being chosen now, some gems coming from previous albums. SPEECHLESS (The Instrumental Bruce Cockburn) will also include several new songs and recordings.

Instrumental pieces chosen for SPEECHLESS include: Sunwheel Dance, the title track from Sunwheel Dance, (1971) Fox Glove from 1973’s Night Vision, Mistress of Storms from The Charity of Night (1996) and Salt, Sun and Time from Salt, Sun and Time (1974).

Besides recording 27 albums, writing hundreds of songs, receiving numerous prestigious awards, Bruce is also known as a compassionate ambassador for humanitarian causes world-wide. He has traveled extensively on many fact-finding trips to Cambodia, Vietnam, Guatemala, Kosovo, Nepal, Nicaragua, Mozambique and in January 2004 war-torn Baghdad.

Musicians today aspire to be able to record their music how and when they want to, and hope they can make a long-standing respectable career out of it.
Bruce Cockburn does just that and has done so for over 35 years. He has always remained true to himself, his music, his values and his views.

Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired

This tried and true slogan helps us to stay in touch with our feelings and needs.
Sometimes the onset of anxiety or a sudden drop in mood can be traced to our having forgotten to eat so our blood sugar levels are off kilter. Sometimes we may be carrying a resentment, or feeling lonely, or we are just too tired.
Taking a little time out from our busy day to ask ourselves if we are feeling too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired, gets us in touch with our feelings. When we know what we are feeling we can make choices and take the appropriate action to get our needs for food, companionship, or rest, met.

Being too hungry, angry, lonely, or tired, are conditions that leave us more vulnerable to the temptations that lead us away from our program of dual recovery.
Part of recovery is learning to pay attention to these inner signals and practice appropriate ways to meet our needs and resolve issues in a manner that will enhance our abstinence and serenity.

It was there that it dawned on my deeper senses that I could do - what i love to do.

Moving a group of humans is vital because when people move physically they also keep their emotions and mind active.

Why don't we move around in Church? Passivity brings down the curtains around emotions, mentally and spiritually .......

"Hi Pip

Thanks for all your blogging recently - I'm loving reading about all the U2 gigs you're getting to (am very jealous!)

We made it to Twickenham on Sunday and it was AMAZING (guess I don't need to tell you that really!) I was amused by how many of the songs played between bands are also on your Selection Box from 2003! Looks like the sound engineers have the same taste in music as you! That CD (your selection box) is still one of my most-played so thank you!

I particularly love your picture of the big screen showing the UNDHR clause. That was my fave bit of the gig, not least because the Burma Campaign is very close to my heart and Bono dedicated that bit to Aung San Suu Kyi on Sunday, her 60th birthday.

My current top (non-U2) music recommendation is The Isis Project by Guy Chambers and Sophie Hunter. Beautiful.

Bless you...

Go on ............ what would you label yourself on a bumper sticker?

On Monday I bought a 'lippy' for the first time ever. I sometimes have a wee bit of 'dry' in the corner of my mouth. A little rub of this stuff will return me to eternal beauty. I left it in my car and travelled to see U2 in Glasgow - Easybitch - as my Sheilas call that orange coloured Airline. Did I mention that I have seen U2 in concert?

When I got back from Scotland and picked up my car from the long term car park - stink - my lippy had melted into a patch of grease .............
Maybe I don't need any beauty products?

Feel good about today. I designed an activity to get people involved in 'make poverty history'.
Unusually I got lots of positive feedback. Often humans don't comment - I guess they feel I am secure enough and don't need encouragement? Maybe people feel I am bigheaded and don't want to add to the swell? Maybe ...................... anyway - I had some good comments and I feel good now.

Over the w/e I am leading a Team Building experience for a team who run a health club. When I got the map from the web it is in a Training Conference - IBM I think, in a place called Cookham.*

When Joan was 17 she worked in a big glass factory in St Helens and was part of a team working a Holarith* machine. This was one of the first ever computers - twice as big as your bathroom. It churned out the payroll - advanced stuff.
She was sent as this young woman - on a training course in Cookham - YES, she tells me, at the same conference centre as I am working in this week-end. It was a massive experience for her. Big cultural experience. She has talked about it often - even now a hundred years later!!

Sunday night - the Saints - my team, play the pie eaters in the Challenge Cup - and I am away stink.
Also I am in much regret because I will miss the Saturday Greenbelt Trustee meeting too.

The flurry of U2 gigs, in the last week, is now over. Next week I am more normal - what is normal?

Do you find it difficult to work this weather? (in the UK it is hot at the moment - in and around London certainly).

My ears are still hissing from the last U2 concert. I am still buzzing and today, as I went back and forth to a new exhaust fitted on my motor, U2 was on the speakers - loud and beautiful.
I love "All because of you - I am"

Frustrated re. no email system.

Inspired by my U2 month of June 2005.
( I am certain that in the middle of Vertigo, during that line when the lyrics go;
"All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours

All of this, all of this can be yours
Just give me what I want and no-one gets hurt…."
I am certain I heard Bono shout "F*** off"
........... which remindsed me of my reading of the song to be about the temptation of Jesus by the dEVIL as he stood on the side of a mountain - with vertigo!)

..... I have had a good day today doing training with beautiful humans. More like facilitation - pulling out of a group all their issues and passions and with a good pip-designed process - we come up with a good sense of cohesion, team work, and a practical outcome too.

"Motion changes emotion" is one of my sayings in terms of this sort of work.
If people sit for too long, their bums become the focus of attention .... as the mind slips to 'pause'.

So it is not only the outcome which matters. It is vital that it is experiential for the team. The process gives satisfaction too.

One thing I reflect on as a Trainer. When humans are with you and see and feel me working a group - I often get asked to come go to another group and do the same sort of thing. There isn't the same awareness that I can be presented with an issue or objective and then design something JUST for them.
If you ever want me to do some stuff, I work with NGO's and with Business Teams too, please come at me - I can do all sorts - not just the well known 'baked bean trifle game' or the 'blob tree' or 'Spiritual and Christian Development' stuff.

I am just about to pack for the trip to Glasgow in the morning.(great that I don't have to pack my Training bag full of Tools and Blobs and stuff)

Yes - off to see my favourite band again - the last time I will see them this month. Then they will be off to do three gigs in Dublin and then one more in Cardif before they return to other European stadiums.

Big John will be the hostess with his most beautiful Jules ......... and we must talk about my new show at Greenbelt and all the new exciting MP3's which Greenbelters can download onto their iPods at the Festival hey hey.

Going to Twickenham as a Rugby League supporter is a bit of an ordeal but I will cope.

Sunday it will be church and a sun day it seems. We will eat under a sunshade for the first time this year.

Monday I am working away again for the day - Training - I love it -but needs massive prep and contextualization.

Tuesday I fly to Newcastle to meet Big John and go to Glasgow to see ...... yes yes - U2
Wednesday I am in consultation with Big John who will be Producer of my show at Greenbelt this year.

Thursday working at home.

Friday working 'Learning and Development' work.

At the w/e I am leading a Conference for a Health Club Team.

Monday ...... I haven't a clue ...... not looked at my diary.

I am feeling good. Bit concerned about a friend who, at a young age, has had several operations to correct blockages in the blood flow around the heart - concerned.

I will correct the state I am in by Sunday and then ........ rock and roll .......... and I will have to wait until July until I see U2 in Oslo.

....... ..just in from the gig with BRMC ........ I had tubed it under London and aimed my nose at Kings Cross and met our Joy. We walked to the smallest and grubbiest Thai Restaurant you can imagine. Down through the door of 'Paolina' - past the beaming staff-behind the 'in your face kitchen/server/everything ......... down some worn rickety steps into a basement eating area ............ and there we were knee deep in wondrous home-cooking style food. hmmm ...... here I go again with the hmmmms.

Pete-the-Greek, Joy's boyfriend lives near here and it is a favourite hangout and a place to search out if you are around that area anytime. Clock the address and name - place it in your Mobile and think of 'King' and 'Cross'

I am puffing my first mild-small-cigar of the day, two days, and have a bottle of Czech beer on the go - run out of stinking Cointreau haven't I? Away too much and neglecting the spirit!

We then nipped into the local cobbled street into the local wine bar and eatery called Smithy's. Joy once had one of her birthday parties there. She seems to have one every year.
Or more! A quick drink and then over the road to 'The Scala' a wee rock club just at the door of Kings Cross Station and those major development for the Eurostar when it comes to London.

We had to wait for the other Sheila, Ann, as she was on another multiple late night editing spree to complete the new MTV TV programme called 'Pimp my Ride' baby (I added the baby bit myself!
It will be advertised soon on the billboards and I understand that MTV are running an ad now.
I have not seen her for ages - couple of months I think but we talk and text all the time.
WILL be giging with her again on Saturday at the U2 gig with about 60,000 humans instead of the 1500 squashed into the Scala. Great venue. I want one for Fathers Day!!
I love these Sheilas.

We just made it for BRMC as they took the stage at 9.30. ( I find it rather difficult smoking a cigar - drinking lager and clicking keys - pause!)
They have a new album out soon, I would love to see them at Greenbelt, which is called 'Havered' (is that correct Ross?) More of a country/folky feel it is. Much better than the previous albums but still very rock and upbeat. (Ross joined us at the gig too - and I saw a couple of Wroes doing the pogo to "Spread your love like a fever ........"
