... our Church is called
'St Edwards in the Market Place'
and so it is - and was today.

We walked through the Market into a special and wondrous quietness.
A reflection
organ music
prayer
hymn
and silence between each
and I sip at that well ....

As a dropped down there
I entered a new place
I yearned for it
I wanted to be still
unusual for me

I could not pray
washing machine in my head
swishing around with my whole life in it
so I decided to offer all that

The sounds of the Market Traders
enter the church through the open doors
I like that

Then I can hear single small coins
dropping in the cash box
which comes with the candles.
As the service rolled on
visitors came in from the market
lighting their candles
pausing
and giving a coin or more
then
returning to the market
and
I found it easy to pray
for them
unknown humans
ordinary humans
beautiful humans
lighting candles
holding their carrier bags.

Then the reflections
the hymns
the music
get to me ...

I start to culturally transpose them
from first century Holy Land
to here and now

I will reflect more
I want to
