U2 Planning To Sell, Recycle ‘Claw’ Stage

When U2 wraps up their two-year long 360 tour at the end of July, the band plans to sell three of the innovative “Claw” stages featured on the trek for use as permanent venues at various cities across the globe.
The striking stage assembly, which holds all of the band’s sound and light gear while still allowing nearly unlimited 360 views from anywhere in an outdoor venue (hence the tour name), “Represents too great an engineering feat to use for just [the tour] and put away in a warehouse somewhere,” according to U2 tour director Craig Evans in a recent Billboard article.
No buyers have been announced yet, but Evans says interest has been great: “They’re something you can put up on a waterfront and [have] become an instant skyline icon.”
Once U2′s tour is over, the band will presumably get back to work on their long-discussed follow-up to the album that kicked off this gigantic tour, 2009′s ‘No Line on the Horizon.’ Fans of the band’s early ’90s masterpiece ‘Achtung Baby’ can also expect a deluxe re-issue of that album, and it’s little brother ‘Zooropa,’ later this year.
