Sounds of Greenbelt 2011:

candlepower

As promised yesterday, we've now got the full set of Paul Whitty's sounds of Greenbelt 2011 up on soundcloud including such intriguingly titled (at least if you weren't listening carefully at the Communion Service) pieces as the right combination of elective surgery and pilates….

All weekend Paul was itching to make use of his hydrophone (and not, I'm sure, simply because it makes him look like a 70 sci-fi hero) and he got his chance at the delightful candle-powered steam boats stall. He says:

On Monday afternoon i visited my favourite Greenbelt sound – the candle-powered steam boats. I asked if i could use my hydrophone to record the sound of the boats from beneath the surface of the water and this is the result. I pieced this recording together from fragments taken in each of the bowls on the stall. My favourite is the enamel one which turns into a candle powered singing bowl as the prow of the boat brushes against the sides…
