or  Mental Health & Wellbeing (how to work effectively with anxiety/stress)
Facilitator - Camilla Ghazala
Identifying two paradigms of Mental Health in our culture, (Orthodox medical view and psychotherapeutic view) Cost of Mild-Moderate MH issues and unsustainability of this. Preventative and curative approaches to most common Mild to Moderate Mental Health issues (anxiety/stress). How do I manage my own mental health and wellbeing? Using my Wellbeing model we will identify what our all round health looks like when it is resilient and when it is compromised. What can we change and what can't we change? How our Private Logic/Lifestyle impacts our Wellbeing and how we manage it.
This course will be a mixture of educational and experiential approaches and requires attendance of all sessions. There will be some process time, there will not be any group therapy.
This course is for those interested in learning more about Mental Health and demystifying the label. Those who want some deeper insights into the psychological and emotional drivers of MH issues. Those who are working as therapists/professionals with MH issues. Professionals who manage staff teams.
This course is not suitable for those experiencing moderate - severe MH issues at this time. This course is not working to resolve these issues, as this requires on going work with a qualified professional.

The Stories We Weave
Facilitator - Marilyn McGowan
The stories we tell are not the lives we have lived. We are story telling people who select, censor, and create narratives that give us a sense of identity and connection with others.
This introductory experiential and informative workshop in narrative Therapy will consider how we make meaning of our lives through telling and gathering stories. Using approaches from narrative research, participants will be asked to consider how stories can create harmony and healing, and be enriched and understood through the philosphy of Adler.
or
Walking the Dark Path
Facilitator - Paul Lindemann
Last year the number of young people contacting ChildLine with concerns and issues surrounding self-harm, almost doubled. The suicide rate in the 16 to 25 year old age group is still increasing and there are more deaths by suicide in the middle-age group than ever before. Most of us know, or know of someone who has died by suicide.
This workshop will explore some of the likely reasons for this distressing state of affairs and the tragic consequences thereof. We will develop an understanding of that which is needed to assist those people who are in this distress, and further to that, learn some of the necessary skills required to provide that which is needed. It is not possible to work effectively with individuals who are already on the dark path if one is not familiar with and prepared to walk the dark path as well. It is therefore vital to have a good-enough understanding of the nature of the dark path, so that one can bring one's own illumination to that darkness. It is not so easy to develop this skill, it requires courage and determination, but it can be done, and indeed, is being done every day and you can do it too.
This workshop is for those professionals and individuals who feel concerned about the currently escalating situation and would like to get a better understanding and perspective on self-harm and suicide, and be better prepared to make useful and effective interventions.

Snapshots of Lifestyle
Facilitator - Jill Reynolds
From an Adlerian perspective, lifestyle encompasses all that we are - our attitudes, perceptions, thoughts, emotions and physical and psychological movement - the whole of us.
By focussing on dreams and early memories within lifestyle work, we can identify these snapshots - little nuggets of information which contain the distillation and essence of lifestyle.
This experiential and creative workshop combines a mix of theory, skills practice and personal understanding of your dreams and childhood memories. The aim of the workshop is to add to the experience of students and counsellors familiar with Individual Psychology, and also provide an opportunity for those not familiar with Adler's concepts and methodology to experience these.
or
Adler and Me Dramatically
Facilitator - Wendy Goddard
In this workshop we may use role play, psychodrama, storytelling, theatre techniques, movement and objects in a creative way to explore Adlerian concepts such as "life-style", "family constellations", "private logic".
You will be encouraged to explore and reflect your feelings and relationships with yourself and others in a safe environment and to reflect upon existing beliefs and attitudes, and explore the opportunity to try alternative ways of acting in the world.
we will discuss ways to use the techniques in therapy with individuals and groups and look at the theory underpinning the workshop.
Suitable for anyone who wants to take risks and have fun!!
Module B (2.00 - 4.00 pm)
2.00 - 3.00pm Adlers Cafe  - Jill Reynolds  - This offers the opportunity for all at Gaunt's House to get together to discuss the philosophy, theory and practice of Alfred Adler.
3.00 - 4.00pm Process Space - Keith Lewis & Jill Reynolds - This is an open space for anyone who wishes to have additional time to process material arising from their experience at Summer School.
or
Mending the Fabrics of Creativity
Facilitator - Jolene Payne
We will - using a variety of experiential exercises take a journey through our understanding of creativity, with a view to reclaim the young part of all of us that can 'experience' creativity in the moment. Many of the exercises we will undertake are those that I use regularly in my practice and can be profound ways to allow clients to explore and mirror their internal feelings and relationships with the world. This group will therefore be a space where practicing therapists may learn to use new tools as well as others who may come to heal the parts of themselves that say "I can't" when asked to draw or play.
or
When the Cheese is Falling off Your Cracker (Creative Pipology)
Facilitator - Pip Wilson
A process of involving everyone in sharing, journeying and learning from each other. All stimulated by many Blob Tree Tools, mini movie clips, games, group work and fun exercises using many varied methods from Pipology.
or
Write Your Life
Facilitator - Christine Nutt
Journal writing is a wonderful way of exploring the self. In this experiential workshop, you will explore various ways to encourage yourself to write, using exercises, guided visualisations, discussions, even party games to write about your thoughts, feelings, dreams, life-style, ideas and early recollections and unleash the creative, imaginative, inspirational author that lives within all of us, even if we've never met that part of ourselves before.
Whatever your past experience of producing 'written work' this workshop will offer you an opportunity to write freely, without fear of judgement or worries about things like spelling or grammar. You will be encouraged and encourage each other to write like you've never written before, to experiment and have fun.
or
Drumbeats of the Soul
Facilitator - Unity-Joy Dale
A creative and therapeutic workshop, using ancient rituals we shall work in ceremony giving thanks to the trees for their wood, the animals for their skin and to Great Spirit for our own innate creative energy. The crafting of a hand held drum in this way is a unique experience often touching the very core of our being. The drums may be used for healing, space clearing, meditation or simply to have fun with! No musical experience required!
There will be an additional £50 charge for this workshop to cover the cost of materials.
Module C (4.30 - 6.30 pm)
Grace Under Pressure
Facilitator - Wendy Goddard
Families are having a tough time of it, particularly in the present climate. I have found that when working with parents the most difficult problems can be openly discussed and resolved in an atmosphere of trust, sensitivity and creative fun. Lectures and classes are not easy for families who found school difficult. But most enjoy drama, art, and play and, when given the encouragement, they learn experientially how to restore grace and harmony to the family. We will explore some of the creative ideas that I use in my workshops with parents and children. Suitable for anyone working with families, and/or, those who may wish to explore their own family dynamics. (Sorry, only one family member accepted into the workshop).
or
Life Coaching
Facilitator - Sue Anne O'Donnell
An introduction to Life Coaching and the potential benefits, a chance to discover where we hold ourselves back, challenge what we have been tolerating for too long and what to do about it. It's a chance to make some decisions, choose a worthwhile change and learn how to support yourself while doing this.
This workshop will be 'exercise/practical' based for the majority; working in pairs with intermittent group sharing to increase the learning opportunity.
It will be best suited to those who have decided to learn a new skill, (bearing in mind this is only an introduction to Life Coaching) are open to trying a new approach and are willing to participate fully in the process.
Please bring an open mind, a sense of fun and a willingness to learn.

or
Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction
Facilitator - Bruce Greenhalgh
This is an abridged version of the renown MBSR course developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Massachusetts Medical Centre. The workshop will provide the participants with an opportunity to learn a meditation-approach to stress management. The content is focussed around the practice of mindfulness which Kabat-Zinn defines as "paying attention in a particular way on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally". The workshop will be experiential and encourage participants to develop their own mindfulness practice during the week. Bruce will adopt an 'enquiry' type approach to facilitate learning by adopting an investigative dialogue encouraging participants to explore fully the experiences they had during the practice sessions, and to learn from these.
or
Men and the Tasks of Life
Facilitator - Paul Lindemann
For us men to be the best person we can be, means we have to be the best man we can be, and so, what does being our best man entail? This is a workshop about the lives of men. It's a workshop for men, about men, conducted by men. There will be an exploration and sharing about the experiences of, manhood, maleness, masculinity, fatherhood, and brotherhood.
We will talk about the sadness and pain of men, the creativity and beauty of men, the striving and achievements of men, the desire and loves of men, the violence and darkness of men. We will think about our work, our relationships, and our families. We will consider what to do about our lost and confused children, our difficulties with relationships, and our broken communities.
Pull together your courage and your passion and come to this potting shed of creative growth, this summit of sharing, this workbench of inspiration, this gathering of resolve. You will be welcome.
or
Salmon's Tale
Facilitators - Unity-Joy Dale & Camilla Ghazala
Through ancient rituals, meditation and song we will connect with Salmon's powerful memory. Guided by this ancient 'Silver Mother' we will trace back to our source receiving the wisdom from our ancestors to inspire us on our forward journey and offer inner healing. Using the softest leather we will create a small pouch to contain Salmon's gifts for the future. This workshop will take place outside within the arms of Mother Nature whatever she might bring so warm/waterproof clothing may be required also a blanket or cushion to sit on.
or
Healing Childhood Trauma
Facilitator - Marilyn McGowan
This experiential workshop will consider definitions and appraches to trauma and how trauma impacts on the emotional development and behaviour of children and young people. Participants will be asked to consider how therapeutic interventions can be developed for the well being of young clients.
