This is just a nice slice of nostalgia going all the way back to the turn of the century. The legendary and extremely influential J Dilla J Dilla speaks candidly about the release of his first proper solo release, Welcome 2 Detroit, as well as his production work with Badu, Common, and more. Especially insightful is the section on bootlegging and piracy. Before the conversation had actually gone mainstream, Dilla repeatedly praises the pirates of his music, saying the exposure allowed him to branch out and experiment, the results eventually becoming Welcome 2 Detroit and Ruff Draft.
J Dilla died on February 10, 2006. His birthday is February 7, and he would've been 39 years old.
