Greenbelt 2013 Life Begins: First Lineup Announced

Greenbelt is proud to announce the first acts for its 40th festival, taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. This year’s theme is “Life Begins”.
Malian superstars Amadou & Mariam will headline a night on the Greenbelt Mainstage. The Grammy-winning duo have recorded seven albums of their sensational songs, which mix traditional music from Mali with a host of international influences. They have a peerless reputation as a live act, having supported U2, Coldplay and Blur.
Our second music headliner is North London’s own king of soul Lemar. Winner of two Brit Awards and three MOBO Awards, and creator of seven top ten UK singles, Lemar released his fifth album Invincible in 2012, has recorded with JLS and Sway, and supported Mary J Blige on her UK arena tour. Lemar brings his full band to party with us in Cheltenham.
Also appearing on Mainstage, we have folk legends in the shape of Eliza Carthy and Jim Moray, as the two award-winning songwriters join forces with an all-star band to bring their Wayward Tour show to Greenbelt.
The music lineup is further enriched by dramatic orchestral folk from Moulettes, Bellowhead tourmates and Swiss swamp rockers Mama Rosin, and awesome accapella and beatboxing five-piece The Boxettes.
In our 40th year, we’re also taking a look back to acts who have thrilled us over the years, welcoming back ’90s Greenbelt stalwarts Fat & Frantic for a lunchtime gig, faithful friend of Greenbelt Martyn Joseph with his songwriters’ circle The Rising, and Garth Hewitt, who played at the first ever Greenbelt in 1974.
