NYA launches booster fund for employability projects across the UK
Supported by funding from Barclays, the National Youth Agency is investing £1 million into the youth sector, delivering employability and life skills training for up to 100,000 disadvantaged young people aged 14-25 between January and December 2015.
The National Youth Agency is working directly with a number of organisations across the UK to add value to existing employability projects, providing youth work deliverers with the flexibility to meet the specific, local needs of the young people they work with. The Employability Support Programme will enable youth workers to give dedicated, tailored support to their young people and help them explore routes to employment.
Organisations already involved in the programme are using the extra funding to run sessions on C.V writing, interview techniques, understanding wage slips and developing business plans or funding bids.
CEO of the National Youth Agency, Fiona Blacke said, “We are delighted to again be working in partnership with Barclays, after the success of the Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’ programme in 2014.
“We know that youth unemployment is a huge issue, but we also know that youth work can help young people to develop some of the necessary skills to succeed in the world of work. Our new programme is building on projects that are already delivering for young people and is unique in the fact that there is no prescribed course that youth workers must run to access additional funding.
“We want youth work deliverers to be able to shape their training in a way that meets the needs of local young people and supports them to prepare for their future.”
The Employability Support Programme is part of Barclays ‘5 Million Young Futures’ commitment, providing the next generation with the skills they need to support themselves, creating a ripple effect for their families and their local communities.
