Jamie Cullum showcases his love for all types of jazz, and music rooted in jazz, from its heritage to the future.

This week, British electronic musician Matthew Herbert chats to Jamie about his groundbreaking approaches to concept albums and sound recording, including the time he recorded 3500 people biting an apple at the same time.

The two discuss the different methods Matthew Herbert applies to his albums and the role that jazz plays within his music, specifically on his big band album Goodbye Swingtime, which he recorded with 16 British jazz musicians.

Curtis Mayfield
has just died
in my arms
in my ears.

I am listening to
a BBC Radio documentary
about him
as I do jobs
cleaning car
loading up
and ......

The lighting gantry crashed on him
as he was plugging in to perform
with his band
and me there too
because his wife was telling about this.

As a result he was confined to using
a wheel chair
but he kept on writing.

The two trackes here
and below
magnetic.

I feel sad at his loss.
beautiful because of all he was
and still is
through is music.

God love him
what a composer to meet
when I join him

hmmmmmm

I ask a young woman why she is crying.
She says someone told her yesterday
she was unattractive.
She said she has always felt unattractive.
She had been struck by lightening
yesterday

Sometimes we meet and
interact with humans
and there is conflict.
Sometimes it is our interaction
which is the last straw.
Tears or in some cases
more obnoxious behaviour,
aggression and even
violence sometimes.

Behaviour it seems to me is
NOT only about the immediate.
Often the damage has been done
over the years
or maybe a long time ago.

After the lightening
we hear the delayed thunder.

I have worked with humans all my life
who have, it is said, have 'behavioural problems'.
Certainly I have experienced terrorized sleep
all too often.

Once I remember Mrs Beautiful getting up in the middle of the night
and being violently sick.
This was all due to the tension I was living under
and she was picking up the damage second hand.
These were the living and working
in East-end London years.
Gangs.
Mob violence.
Professional crime.
Professional violence.
I shiver now at the thought.

After the lightening
we feel the delayed thunder.

It is vital to look beyond the behaviour .....
I keep saying
in blogs,
in facilitation,
in conversations.

To only
feel the tears
or
see the tears
is not enough.

The story is important
the journey of the weeping human
is all part of the behaviour
and therefore our response.
We need to be response-able.
Respond with love no matter what.

"there is no such a thing
as a difficult person,
only difficult behaviour"

I need to think more about this
as it is vital for life .............
that person I will next see weeping
certainly at Greenbelt
........... and my own tears too.

Greenbelt Festival / Blog / Pip Wilson's Blob Greenbelt

Pip Wilson's Blob Greenbelt

blobgreenbeltdetail

Greenbelt trustee and all-round legend Pip Wilson has released a special Greenbelt version of the famous Blob Tree, created by Pip and Ian Long, and used by youth groups, families, workplaces and organisations to explore feelings in a non-verbal way.

Whilst looking at the image, ask yourself the questions below to find out about your emotions and expectations as you approach Greenbelt, and throughout the weekend.

Before the Festival:
Which Blob do you feel like right now?
Which Blob describes your expectations?
Which Blob do you NOT want to happen?
Which Blob to look out for, to care for?

At Greenbelt:
Touch the Blob you feel like daily.
Ask others to spill how they are feeling every day
Which Blob is what you pray for?
Which Blob is a danger area for you?
Which Blob is someone you are concerned about?
There are 6 coloured paths, which do you plan to be on?
Which Blob in need will urge you to a different path?

The things that keep us awake,
are sometimes the things we bury.
Buried alive!!

These things are not buried dead.
They are alive inside us.
These things are buried alive
and they stay alive and hurt
drain emotional energy
active inside

These little packages ...
.. or bigger,
are like parcels all wrapped up
with string and selotape.
They are buried because
they are uncomfortable to live with
- handle
- manage.
They all need to be pulled out
and opened up.
Examined and dealt with.
Then they can be buried dead.
Not inside us alive.

love like you have never been hurt

A community

Don't naturally relate

coz I'm so young - huh!

I am in Church again
why do I do this?
It is coz I believe
God yes
Church yes
Belonging yes
Community yes

I have wept this week

several times
in a dark place
hit by pain
right in front of me
and in strong memories
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

I was in a dark place
a cinema
west end of London
and it was dark in many ways.
It was all about gangs
so close to my home
yet this is based in Chicago
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

It was not fiction
it was nearly three hours of pain
and courage
and hope
and my tears
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

I was with a friend
I having much experience of gangs
He having it from a different perspective.
It hit us both differently.
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

I never recommend
a restaurant
a holiday destination
a book
an album
a movie
but
everyone working with humans
or interested in change
society
inner city
riots
Please consider doing this .....
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

It was so relevant to the UK Riots.
vital regarding behaviour
violence
making a difference
being on the edge
living life
as a living sacrifice.
I was watching the movie The Interrupters.

I wept again when I saw this MOVIE TRAILER
