I was awake at 4am a couple of nights ago.
Mind thinking all sorts ........

These words came to me after several re-writes in my head.
I had to write my end thoughts on my phone
otherwise I forget .................

Many of my one-liners come to me ...........

Allow us to introduce you to...

This year our Monday night closer on the Glade mainstage is the mighty Gregory Alan Isakov. We think he's fabulous and we think you will too. Discover more about this fiercely talented singer-songwriter, and why we think he's perfect for Greenbelt.
Meet Gregory

Greenbelt wants YOU

You've no doubt seen the lineup for this year's festival. We've got Russell Brand, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Frank Turner, Lucy Spraggan, even the Archbishop of Canterbury. But there is one name we haven't announced yet. And that is....yours. Find out how you can be part of the bill.
"If it weren't for second chances, we'd all be alone"

Searching for the
Young Green Rebels

Are you passionate about climate change? Aged 15 and over? Want to take action? We're offering 25 young people a unique training programme that will create a lasting, tangible, local legacy where you live. This week's your last chance to sign up!

Space to talk

At the Pagoda this year we've reimagined the venue as a space in the round for wider conversations and bigger debates – a place to explore all angles, for a truly 360-degree view. This blog from our sponsor CCLA explains some of what we'll be talking about there.

Power to the people

Our partner Christian Aid has a jam-packed programme at Greenbelt this year and it's all about the power we have together to change the world. Find out all about what they have planned.

What we've been reading, watching and sharing...
(when we're not planning GB '19)

We love this attempt to tackle loneliness in a really simple way, creating spaces for people who need to talk to someone who is happy to listen.

A really interesting transatlantic take on the success of Extinction Rebellion, its origins and how it might succeed in going international.

This is a really powerful piece from the NYT, where New York children read out the words of children currently being held in Border Patrol facilities.

Compostable trainers, anyone? Meet the world’s first pair of trainers you can compost, rather than throw out, once you’ve worn them out.

The challenges faced by secular organisations like Sunday Assembly and how, if they’re going to survive, they might need to become more like the churches they’re looking to replace.

Meet the woman who has so far stitched four hundred and fifty Trump quotations onto different pieces of fabric in mindful protest.

"The father of one of the families has been sitting on a chair in the street watching his home being torn apart", an Al Jazeera piece on the recent swathe of home demolitions in Israel.

If there’s one thing more fabulous than seeing Pose star Billy Porter in a dress at the Met Gala then it’s watching Billy Porter talk about wearing a dress at the Met Gala.

Treat your eyes, ears and mind to this fantastic new single and video from Les Amazones d’Afrique, a contemporary world music supergroup who are playing for us on Monday this year

Looks good, doesn't it?

We think so, and we can't wait to show it all to you in a few weeks.

Many many feelings flying around in the UK today. Many direct insults & abuse aimed at Boris Johnson.

Many many feelings flying around in the UK today.
Many direct insults & abuse aimed at Boris Johnson.
Twitter seems to be the most popular channel.

I fear for the world with both
Boris Johnson & Donald Trump in such seats of power.
My read of both men is::
Impulsive, unthought out, unpredictable, self centred, wall builders
somewhat like the 'Selfish Giant'.

If you know me
you will know I see all humans as beautiful humans,
I have worked with young offenders all my life - beautiful humans.
I have worked with violent, disturbed, raging - beautiful humans.
We can see a persons behaviour but we can’t see their journey.

It is not easy for me to see Trump & Johnson as beautiful.
My feelings are in reverse which means my mind must get into gear
NOT just my feelings.

I don’t intend to insult or abuse them here.
But I try to understand them.

I have no relationship with them
so there is only their public pronouncements &
behaviour to help me understand.

I wonder what, in their background/upstream/journey,
has helped to create who they are?

I will not abuse
but I will comment on their behaviour.

I will disturb the comfortable
&
Comfort the disturbed.

Life doesn't have to stay broken. It can heal. Move forwards. Be different.

Don't give up on people.
People are complicated.
Complex.
Don't give up on them
We are complicated and complex.
Don't give up on us.

We are all broken.
Broken people.
But there is hope.
Life doesn't have to stay broken.
It can heal.
Move forwards.
Be different.

It will never be the same again.
As it was before we broke.
But it can be beautiful again.
It really can.
Beautiful in its brokenness.

Don't give up.
On people.
On us.
On you.
Don't give up on yourself.
You belong here.
You are loved.
You are being thought of right now.

Don't give up.

Reflecting on my emotional discoveries and why I go on about it so much.

I didn't clock the
EMOTIONAL
until I started working with
East London gangs in 1975.

I had worked with gangs before
Bikers
Drinkers
Factory workers
Young Offenders
but had not connected to my Hard Drive,
that lump of mass in my head,
until the late 70's.

I had brought up as emotionally illiterate.
Emotions were present a plenty
but not on the agenda.
(a bit like the present UK government).

I never saw my Mother and Father
kiss
until he was dying in hospital
when I was 16.

I didn't know how to manage emotions.
Like most people
I controlled them
sometimes.
= BAD

Manage is good
Control is BAD.

I used to have a massive temper.
Flash
and I was spitting fire and brimstone.

In the 70's
I discovered Social Deprivation.
A whole collection of factors
to categorise a community
as to their needs/loss/hurts
BUT
The government list/stats
did not include Emotional Deprivation.
They did not include Spiritual Deprivation.

My realisation THEN
has carried on through my life
and continues to this day.
I became a stuttering
Emotion Investigator.
Committed learner.

It is the number one
when it comes to behaviour
broken relationships
broken society.

It hurts
individuals
groups
communities
society
and the world -
if we don't become aware
and competent
and equipped with our life toolbox.

A big part of our developing wholeness
is becoming
increasingly
emotionally Intelligent.
Our inner being = BECOMING ..............

How come we can bail out the Banks & not the PLANET ?

'How can we bail out the banks
but not the planet?

We have to stop thinking about the imperative of economic growth—
nothing grows for ever.'

The Book of @AnnPettifor will be in the next edition of The Bible.
