Drop AID \NOT/ BOMBS

Jim Wallace Greenbelt speaker - on Syria

Jim Wallis: Tackle refugee crisis, don’t drop bombs
Military intervention could make the situation in Syria worse, according to US Christian writer and political activist Jim Wallis.
Jim was a speaker at The Greenbelt Festival and was loud and strong on the BBC Radio programme broadcast live from the festival.
"I'm suspicious of military strikes because they often have unintended consequences," he said. "Inevitably, they take civilian lives: those Tomahawk missiles aren't as accurate as they say, they could bring other players into the conflict, things could escalate quickly.
"You might end up having to respond in a deeper way and we've got to get out of the old straight jackets, and look for other solutions, because they didn't work in Iraq and Afghanistan."
His comments come as the extent of the refugee crisis in Syria becomes apparent, with two million refugees now in other countries and 4.3 million internally displaced.
Antonio Guterres, head of the UN High Commission for Refugees, said: "Syria has become the great tragedy of this century – a disgraceful humanitarian calamity with suffering and displacement unparalleled in recent history."

The number of refugees is 10 times what it was 12 months ago, with most fleeing to Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey. This surge equates to 5,000 people leaving every day, and there are now more Syrians forcibly displaced than from any other country. One camp in Jordan is now effectively the country's fourth largest city, with 120,000 inhabitants.

Wallis commented on the refugee crisis, saying: "So if Lebanon has four million people and I'm hearing one million Syrian refugees already, half of them children, that's where we might decide to first intervene, mobilise around those refugees and children and win the hearts and minds of the Syrian people.
"Then put Assad on trial, in the international criminal court, put him on trial, prove him to be the criminal that he is, and use that to completely isolate him and surround him with dissent, and eventually remove him from power through international opinion."

ANOTHER GREAT GREENBELT REVIEW

I’ve been told that life begins at 40, but as I approach this grand age, the idea alarms me a little. Why? Well, I wonder whether previous years count if life begins at 40. But of course they do! In nearly 40 years of being on this earth, I have been shaped, moulded and altered by my former years and experiences. (PS, I’m not dead yet, although the phrase “former years” makes it sound like I’ve already popped my clogs!)

The same could be said for Greenbelt’s journey. The arts, faith and justice festival has embraced the idea of turning 40, growing gracefully and victoriously though its own conquests and challenges.

Greenbelt is held every August bank holiday weekend atCheltenham Racecourse. Enriched by the beautiful surrounding area, this sprawling piece of land is turned into an animated community hub with a fresh vibe. The exclusive Racecourse accommodates 20,000 like-minded people, many of whom have travelled from far and wide to be part of this creative, abstract and non-denominational festival.

A variety of individuals, independent groups, non-denominational churches and established denominations come together each year.

Festivalgoers relish the opportunity to explore and

expand their faith and knowledge through creative art or inspiring talks that are primarily focused on spirituality and social justice.

Greenbelt ...... keeps on developing after a GREAT FESTIVAL.

Greenbelt: Change, adapt and develop…

The effects of 2012’s rain damage on the ground at Cheltenham Racecourse over the festival that year meant that we had to re-imagine a new site layout for this year (2013). You seemed to like it. Greenbelt has always had the ability to adapt.
The Racecourse is changing fast and we must continue to change with it. It is just about to embark on a major redevelopment.
We have been working with the Racecourse throughout the planning stages to see how we can continue to make the festival happen here; to adapt some more.
Or, whether it might be time to re-imagine Greenbelt in a new home.
We know this will be challenging. But change is also exciting. In our 40-year journey so far, we have always been a festival that has been adapting and on the move.
One thing we know is that Greenbelt will look different next year.
As part of all this, we will want to listen to what your thoughts and dreams are for Greenbelt’s future. And we need your prayers too.
Because our story is a collective story. One that we make and shape together.

Lady GAGA says she is 'disgusting' - I say a 'Beautiful Human Person'

I tweeted last night::

"A PIG INSIDE

Lady Gaga singing just like I say about #YouAreBeautiful
So many feel a pig inside
#iTunesFestival
You are not what you feel."

I don't know anything about Lady GAGA.
I guess I have heard songs on the radio
and picked up her extreme dress images on TV/Magazines.

Sheila-Joy came around last night.
Full of enthusiasm because the iTunes Festival, in London for 3 weeks,
was streaming a whole range of free concerts on iPhone and Apple TV etc.
I am interested in seeing some of these bands.

GAGA was in talkie form as I watched her live with Joy and MrsBeautiful.
Talking about a song she had composed about being a PIG INSIDE
(pause I will just look up the lyrics)
Done that - posting at the foot of this with a rehearsal vid.

She said something about her feelings
of having a pig inside.
'Disgusting' - she said.

This all fits my emotional deprivation/intelligence spouting.
I am am passionate about all this 'emotions inside' stuff.

My favourite book of all time from long ago::
'Why am I afraid to tell you who I am' by John Powell.
(The real title is on the back cover of the book::
'Why am I afraid to tell you who I am, because if I tell you who I am,
and you don't like who I am,
that is all I have' )
WOW

An early introduction to social emotional and spiritual recognition.
The book has helped me so much.
I have been exploring all this because
it helps me understand my own interior and those of others.
My recent workshop at Greenbelt was all about this stuff.HERE
'You are a beautiful Human Person' - all about this.

GAGA seemed to be letting it all out truthfully in performance.
How she covers up 'the pig inside' with all her extreme clothes
and her behaviour I guess, to hide the PIG INSIDE.
Interesting.

You are beautiful.
You are not how you feel.
Feelings can change with the wind.
They are important.
They are signals BUT
THEY ARE NOT
who we are.

We are not what the scales say
what the mirror says
our comparison with so called 'models'
or how we feel about our regrettable behaviour
or  our regrettable hurting relationships -
it is all about knowing our uniqueness
and the volume of our soul
that makes us beautiful.
NOT a PIG inside.

Now the LYRICS - my first time view::

I know, I know, I Annotate know, I know you want meYou're just a pig inside a human bodySquealer, squealer, squeal out, you're so disgusting! You're just a pig inside...swine.
Purgent, don't think I want hear another (not another word)
You're just a hater, moan, just trying to act real special
(but deep down you're just a shrewd)Maybe I should have a little more just to stay out of my mindCause it's when I'm not thinking with you that I act like a swine!

Payback, how much will I ask you, squealer? (let your body jiggle)
let me make it a little quicker (it's the thrill of ecstasy)
Maybe I should have a little more just to stay out of my mind?
Cause it's when I'm not thinking' with you that I act like a swine!
Act like a swine! Act like a swine!

That's here talking to herself.
Sad - but I like her honesty last night.
It may help many who see themselves as disgusting.
you are beautiful.
