We could have been labeled 

'Residential Social Workers' back in the day.

At

26 me

& 

22 MrsBeautiful

we became houseparents in a Young Offenders Residential School/Unit.

15 Manchester boys

all sent by the courts.

But we were amateurs

we were untrained

but

we had to learn on our feet.

We had only been married a year and we sold up to change our work

into a Mission.

We got these roles because of volunteer Youth Work in St Helens.

But we hadn't’ a clue about inner city deprivation - even basic adolescent needs.

Since I left Pilkington Glass Research laboratory 

we have lived and worked in partnership

in five different residential projects - each unique.

St Helens, Cheshire, Inner City London & outer East London

EACH ONE a stretch.

Since 2003 I have been a freelance - a Trainer & Group Worker & Author.

Inadequacy  - always.

When  I flash back I reflect ………..

On mainly my weaknesses in these roles.

The young offenders unit being one.

I wish I knew what I know now!

As I have said many times::

I never intended to be this age

it just came with experience.

I had no clue how these teens (14 to 17) had lived.

No clue as to their parenting and life lived & survival. 

During the night I downloaded via Apple Books

The new Lemn Sissay’s book about being raised IN CARE.

Reading only page one so far -

it raises big issues in me.

I have been on this journey of learning -

learning about emotions neglect childhood damage and 

Emotions …………….

WE CAN SEE A PERSONS BEHAVIOUR BUT

WE CAN’T SEE THEIR JOURNEY.

THIS WAS ON PAGE ONE OF HIS BOOK::

The book will tear at my gut.

But I want that.

I need that.

All of us have so much to learn:

We don't know

what we don't know::

In terms of 

sensitivity

awareness

empathy

valuing 

communication

loving ……….

Here in the UK we are in a massive disruption & change if it can be sorted.

Vital foundations - making mine clear

I believe that 

all humans are 

of equal value & 

we need to be closer 

not build walls 

physically 

or 

relationally. 

I believe in :-

WE - NOT - ME. 

We are 

stronger 

richer 

together 

than apart 

so I apply/try 

to live that out 

in all aspects. 

I will not ridicule 

abuse 

put down 

anyone with 

different life 

decisions / values

than myself .

I WILL

Love not hate 

because 

love does a better job. 

I fear for any relationship 

that does not work 

to be closer 

rather than apart.

I believe that

Donald Trump

is not good for the USA

or for the WORLD.

I believe that

Boris Johnson is not good 

for the UK Europe 

or the

WORLD.

Emotionally.

Physically.

This activity is a

feeling

a non-threatening touch with another.

To be experienced.
