During the First World War YMCA Newcastle opened a hostel for the Naval and Military Hospital.
In its first year alone, the hostel provided accommodation to over 27,000 soldiers and prepared over 850,000 meals.
YMCA Newcastle also helped deliver over 360,000 letters to loved ones on the front line.
