In the Face of Christmas
let us ask God for a good Christmas:
that no powerful nation
should tax the poor
or uproot them;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
that no unmarried mother
should be put away in disgrace;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
that no door will be shut
on those that need to find it open;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
that shepherds and sheep and all of nature
need not be afraid;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
that walls, barbed wire and angry soldiers
may not be found in Bethlehem;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
that wise men and wise women
might appear in Wales, in Scotland, in Ireland, in England,
in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in our street;
------------------------------------------------------------------------
that children may be preserved
from those who would abuse them;
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
that this Christmas,
you may become a manger
and your home a stable
and the rumour become a reality
that Christ has come among us.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
And this we pray in Jesus’ name
AMEN

XL Recordings is teaming up with Canongate Books and Book Slam to celebrate the life of Gil Scott-Heron at the launch of his posthumous memoir, The Last Holiday.
The launch takes place at Wilton’s Music Hall in London on January 19 and will feature a one-off b2b DJ set from Jamie XX and Gilles Peterson paying tribute to Gil. Jamie xx produced this year’s We’re New Here, a remix album of Scott-Heron’s 2010 I’m New Here LP; both these records were released on XL. Performance poets Kate Tempest and Ben Mellor are also set to appear, and there will be a chance to see interviews and rare film footage of Gil.
Tickets go on sale on January 5. In the meantime, visit canongate.tv to see footage from the last interview Scott-Heron did before he died and to hear exclusive readings from The Last Holiday.

"In S Africa the theme was the fight against Aids.
Here we must spread the culture of peace and disarmament.
We are still the country that most kills with firearms."
- Renan Filho, Brazilian Member of Parliament,
on a proposal for the 2014 Brazilian World Cup
to give free or reduced-price tickets to fans who surrender guns,
which would be destroyed and
used to make goalposts for Cup matches.

CHRISTINGLING
It was on Sunday\Boosted numbers
I like being lost in a crowd
Love the bubbling energy
BEFORE IT all starts.
Lots of thick overcoats today
Love the wheelchairs
- really the humans in them
the children talking about presents
general excitement around.
Now to concentrate on presence
Make me part of this world
Two deaths announced.
Cancer seems to be prevalent
I want to be part of it all
The Joy
The Pain
I refuse neither.

Willie Williams: (I love this man) City Beacons
If you're around the City of London over the Christmas period – or paying a visit to Greenbelt HQ – you can see installations by Greenbelt 2011 Visual Arts contributor Willie Williams, with two London churches transformed into beacons of light. Willie is best known for his live show designs for U2, REM, Lady Gaga [...]
A statement on the boycott of produce from the Israeli Settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory
Greenbelt is calling on its supporters to make a stand by boycotting produce from the Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory. Our call comes at the culmination of our three-year ‘Just Peace’ campaign (through which we've highlighted the issues of injustice suffered by those living on the ground in Israel/Palestine, especially the Palestinians suffering under [...]
To all my L5 Blogger friends::
thought I would send a little note to my young friends
who have stuck by me all these years.
It has been a long journey
thus far
lots more to come I trust
but I am certain
it will be ups and downs
it will be rugged
life is difficult
(Scott Peck)
The road less travelled
(Scott Peck)
You are beautiful
(Pip)
I am feeling good
reflective as usual
yearning also
for those I know
who are not feeling good
in a good place
someone near/near death
with cancer.
Someone trapped in a home.
Another broke -
no money to enjoy treats
Another alone
totally needy
of money - yes
but of humans mainly.
I want to feel deeply
that drives
my passion
my purpose
my mission
my relating
my actions
my faith
my incompleteness
to go beyond beyond beyond
I love that word
Beyond.
Hope we can keep crossing paths in the future
(never any pressure if you want to
loosed grip
slide away from touching hands
not looking into each others eyes
not reading each others faces
we are free to be free
(Nelson Mandela)
Keep in touch
by finger tips
by physical closeness
if not
by any means.
I need you
Only you makes life
pulsating magnetic stimulating
I need that
Have a great Christmas
and

TO BE ALIVE .....
But to grow up is to accept vulnerability.
To be alive is to be vulnerable."
