The Greenbelt Scratch Wind Band and Jazz Orchestra … need you!
This year at Greenbelt we're running not one scratch wind band, but two! Scratch Wind Band For one band, we're looking for keen players of all ages and experience to come play – but with Grade 6 as a standard minimum (as some of the repertoire may be quite demanding) through the Grade 8 + [...]
I have received
some really beautiful messages
from my friends in Norway.
This is one of
the most beautiful.
With permission.
Thank you my friend!
Its been strange days
being a Norwegian these days.
We don't understand this at all.
The good thing is
that the Norwegian word for LOVE
is now becoming the most used word
and a word that now is easier to say.
Here in Norway we often use the English LOVE
and could not dare saying the Norwegian word.
This is changing.
Håvard Skattum
on top of the multiple murders in Norway.
My grief is heavily burdened by that tragedy.
One single life lost is a tragedy.
To have almost 100 is shattering to my soul.
Too much.
Norway is my second home.
Travelling there since 1993
with many close friends before that
and then the bomb, the shootings,
too much.
It is like a red hot poker being driven into my soul.
Too much.
That youthful age group
the age I have worked so much with when I visit.
I may have known some injured, terrified, killed
too much.
I don't only feel for the young humans
but their families,
their leadership
all young lives
I feel for the whole nation.
I don't know how to process the information.
Too much.
I cannot reflect yet on the death of Amy Winehouse.
My Norwegian Family are deeply wounded.
My Norwegian Family
I just want to be with them.
Too much.
No analysis
No criticism
No dwelling on the killer -
I just want to hold hands with
my friends
and family
in silence
before I can move on
because
it is all too much.

"A disturbed child
frequently mistrusts things
put into words,
it his his experiences ...
which will often
bring him healing"
John Bowley
Two faces in front of me.
I can read their expressions.
Two fifteen year old boys.
Faces moved.
Something happening in their souls.
It was surging upwards and outwards.
Through their human frame to display on their faces.
Words did not flow easily.
Words hesitant, stumbling.
Words telling me that they had been moved within.
Telling me that they had connected with an experience.

We are sick as we are secret. [John Berryman]
I had never spoken to her before.
I asked a question.
'Tell me one thing about yourself
which you have never told anyone else?'
A slight pause,
eyes moved to the ceiling,
then back to mine.
"When I am alone,
I talk out loud to myself."
I thanked her.
I said it was wondrous to be so honest.
I had not said that I would not tell anyone.
I had not said it would be confidential.
She trusted me
No ridicule.
No devaluing.
No hard questioning.
Just authenticity offered,
authenticity received.
This was Level Five communication.
Also a release of something locked away,
locked away in secret.
A step away from residing in a place called comfortable
into a place where growth resides.
I had earlier shared my vulnerability.
A deliberate undressing of the soul.
To a large group.
She was in that group.
She trusted me.
Beautiful.
I will remember her forever.

Finally came off painkillers yesterday.
Feel clearer headed already.
It has been a month of stuff
the first few weeks off-the-shelf stuff,
prescribed by the doctor of course,
but then stronger for the last run.
And I still don't know what was wrong.
My right foot def gout.
Left foot, dunno.
Anyway
these physical things attack the whole person.
I feel awareness raised,
even more than before,
for those who live with pain.
Late night has not been so much for me.
Wilson Mansions has seen an earlier to bed human.
But now I am getting back to normal -
LATE.
Peppermint tea
has been replaced by a special brew.
NOT Cointreau, but a herbal remedy.
I still do my mint tea
but now the one I use most is this
anti-gout brew.
Deep stuff at Wilson Mansions.
Had some strange feelings today
still not settled.
Believe it is all the right thing
but
but it is the internal stuff.
Mrs Beautiful and me
had a day off yesterday.
Unusual to take a day out.
Always stuff to do which presses the soul.
Where we used to live
we would be walking alongside double Decker buses
speeding London vehicle hub-bub.
We just did not walk
other to the Bus/Train/Tube.
Yesterday we walked alongside water.
Now I need to get back on my bike
work the body back to normal.
I am used to working hard
and playing hard.
I feel I need to move
from the former to
the latter.
I don't get any gigs during July August.
So all my stuff is home-office.
It is all internal adjustment
but today I felt it deep.
I am always wrestling with myself.
I need to work it through.
Understand it.
Mrs Beautiful says she does.
She is settled.
She is aware of my wolfness restlessness.
Bless her.
Bless you.
No better blessing than one from my great friend,
who has left us to compose his writings for Angels.
John O Donohue
This is so wondrously so beautiful.
Read it
let it soak into your soul
and
bBlessed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Blessed be the longing that brought you here
And quickens your soul with wonder.
May you have the courage to listen to the voice of desire
That disturbs you when you have settled for something safe.
May you have the wisdom to enter generously into your own unease
To discover the new direction your longing wants you to take.
May the forms of your belonging- in love, creativity, and friendship-
Be equal to the grandeur and the call of your soul.
May the one you long for long for you.
May your dreams gradually reveal the destination of your desire.
May a secret Providence guide your thought and nurture your feeling.
May your mind inhabit your life with the sureness with which your body inhabits the world.
May your heart never be haunted by ghost-structures of old damage.
May you come to accept your longing as divine urgency.
May you know the urgency with which God longs for you.
Vinyl at Greenbelt 2011
Another brilliant session on the Greenbelt programme this year is Vinyl: Dreams Of Home.
The idea is to sit and listen to a classic album, on vinyl, from beginning to end. It's a chance to return to a forgotten masterpiece or hear for the first time what all the fuss is about.
You have ten albums to choose from, and only one will be played. Choose from: "Revolver" by the Beatles, "Quadrophenia" by The Who, "Blue" by Joni Mitchell, "Dark Side Of The Moon" by Pink Floyd, "Thriller" by Michael Jackson, "Graceland" by Paul Simon, "The Joshua Tree" by U2, "Parklife" by Blur, "OK Computer" by Radiohead, or "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" by Arctic Monkeys.
You can place your vote by filling in the form below, tweeting at @oneeyegood, or by registering your vote on the blackboard outside Workshops 1 on the Saturday of the festival weekend:
In the company of Angels
At this year's Greenbelt, we're working with the great charity marketing company Yeomans to highlight the kindness of our brilliant Greenbelt Angels, and to encourage more of you to join the throng. Here's some words from Yeomans on their participation with us this year… — We’re very influenced by the company we keep, aren’t we? [...]
The Four Letter Word
Home is
Where the heart is
Where the hearth is
Where the hurt is
Where the dirt is
Where the shirt is
Where the skirting board is
Where the flirting and farting is
Where the dancing and darting is
Where arriving and departing is
Where we stop - if we’re lucky
Home is
Where we tell the tale
Of stories forged when we set sail
Around the globe and beyond the pale
Over a garage-brewed ale (or two)
Before returning on familiar tides
To domestic rows
Where arbitration collides
What can you do?
Home is
Where I can be true
Where we see right through
The masks and falsehoods we push outside
Where false modesty died (long ago)
Where laughter cried
And joy sheds a tear
We simply stand – right here
Won’t you?
Home is
Where I feel alone
This internal landscape all my own
Forget the setting sun
The mountain view, the sea’s dark green crystal hue
Even Northern Lights dancing yellow and blue
Don’t pass me by
It is only I
And you know who I am -
Don’t you?
Home is
Where I welcome the stranger
Seal off danger
Play the Lone Ranger
Protecting the occasional few
Whose safe space splintered in two
For whom home is but a dream
Hope – but almost obscene
To mention.
Dare you?
Home is
Where I lay my hat
Shake the dust off the welcome mat
Where I can be fat (and loved too)
Where there’s tons of tat – and treasure
In equal measure
Where I find my pleasure – and pain
Where I murmur the refrain:
‘There’s no place like home’
Do you?
By my friend
I am feeling .....
Yes I am feeling all the time
Yes you are feeling all the time.
We can stand in a familiar place,
say outside your front door,
and look.
Really look at the view before us.
Looking for details,
textures, colours, shapes, sizes, shadows,
humans .......
We see new things -
observe difference, clock diversity.
If we pause and dig into our interior.
Ask ourselves where feelings are in our body.
Awareness is followed by
new skills.
I have not left Wilson Mansions for 8 days
I have been wounded
but it also retches at the emotional too.
The details are below on my blog
but I want to express/reflect.
The worst was when I couldn't touch
even touch the floor with my L foot.
So
I had to crawl to the the bathroom.
The smallest act was punishing.
I tried hopping -
a bit tough for an older human
15 stone weight and-all !
Mrs Beautiful was away Conniepopping.
So I felt alone in it all.
I could not do any work
didn't want enter my computer
Blogging - NO
not wanted to Twitter or Facebook.
Read/write/think/design .......
I was static
looking into space.
It all made me more thoughtful of others
some disabled every day.
Some carrying pain everyday.
I am not used to it.
Never been in a hospital for more than a day.
Hardly ever visited a Doctor until last few years.
Mainly experienced pain via others.
Yesterday I started to come out of it.
Mrs Beautiful is tired.
I have been more useless than ever.
Today I am somewhat better
able to limp to my car/drive
but not yet walk anywhere.
I am keen to get out and walk
Catch some rays
Get on my bike
Walk the usual miles through
London Underground
Local sunshine/shops/newspaper.
That will be soon though .......
Now I am feeling more alive
some energy back
started on a to-do-list/strategic/priorities.
Hitting my inbox - forever a challenge.
Starting to have words with the Divine.
Wanting to reflect - dig into my soul again.
Tomorrow, until Monday,
we have Ann and Connie staying.
Joy is excited about her new home.
That will be busy for us all.
Connie, still not 2,
will be a bungle of fun and a whirlwind.
It is ages since she saw Granddad.
I think
the big learning
has been how the physical
can affect the mind, soul,
the emotional and the social.
I will
be more
aware
sensitive
supportive
in future ......
5 Words to describe my LIFE at the moment
Alive
Limping
Catchup
Head-up
Standing at the Bus stop to catch the next BUS into living ....
.
.
.
...... and you?
