IN MY PAST

60 YEARS AGO TODAY

I was a regular with my mates in the club. 

Tonight it was my first date with Mrs Beautiful 

60 years ago today

It all started

Youth Worker as young as 15

 

I recon I was aged 15 when I became a Youth Worker.
Someone saw something in me which was more than a participant - more of a leader!







So I was entrusted with challenges as I facilitated developmental activities with teenagers younger than myself.
60 years on, only pausing for pandemics and such - i have crossed paths with many beautiful humans = and then I get a message this week which hits me for six.
Stings on both cheeks.(THE LOVE KIND OF STING)
I am blessed - it Blesses me as I sit here with cancer rocking my boat (I don’t feel well at the moment) - and I have been given permission to publish here.




I have not seen him since 1985 or maybe years before?
There is so much more to share about Rob - he has a fantastic memory from his experiences at the Mayflower Youth Work.

Thanks Rob for this, (I am planning to ask him to share some stories - back in the day).

Thanks to Rob and so many other BHP’s who have held hands with me over the years.

I hold it dear.

It is not a strategy but a foundation for all things I do, believe and hold close to my heart.

Our values are the core principles that define who we are, what we believe and who we want to be become & live our lives. 

When we hold them in our soul, living our every day life, we create our own boundaries from all of our inner attitudes behaviours, language and decisions - 

ALL of our actions. 

Without us knowing who we are and our our values we can so easily interact thoughtlessly, allowing our context, and other humans around us, to divert us away from our mission in life.

Doing the simplest thing and - & down I go in terms of energy.Tired. Washed out. 

The medical call it fatigue.

I have many things to do.

Many people to meet up with. 

A desk and an office to clear.

It's hard to explain.

Some fine bits to think about

Time by the sea yesterday

Back to school as it was BACKINTHEDAY

What was school like when you was young Grandad ?

Guess which one of these was me - before the war?

A Granddaughter question - 

great to be in daily visual/audio contact with your grandkids in lockdown !

She asked about our school days which were different than hers - 

a school project.

Grandma spoke about how everyone at school had a lay-down in the afternoon on camp-beds for a sleep.

And then she remembered more ……..

We were tuning into our 5/6 year old school days.

1   I spoke how I used to daily conduct the whole school from a podium as we sung the Nation Anthem.

2   How I used to go to school in Clogs. They had steel bars on the bottom and you could kick the pavement and generate sparks.

3   I told her how we used to go to school everyday with gas masks in a tin box. My three older brothers had different ones than me. Me, the youngest, had a Micky Mouse gas mask.

She could’t understand it ! So we told her about the war and the danger of the Nazi airforce dropping gas bombs - so the whole population has a special mask - never to be worn outside of a daily practice at school. I even remember where we stored them at home. It was in a big bottom drawer in the kitchen.

4   We had a Air Raid shelter in our back yard. Never used but it was there tp play in and existed long after the war ended.

the Gas Masks being carried everyone including the child.
