Scott Peck and his perspective on love

The Road Less Travelled man -
Scott Peck MD,
worked in the field of applied psychology explored the definitions of love and evil.

Peck maintains that love is a combination of the concern
for the spiritual growth of another,
and simple narcissism.
In combination,
love is an activity,
not simply a feeling.

Scott Peck and his perspective on love
(in one of my favourite books::
The Road Less Travelled)
is that::

"..... love is not a feeling,
it is an activity and an investment.
Love is primarily a concern for the spiritual growth of another.
Love cannot be sustained by mutual dependence, rather,
love between two parties

is made stronger when they are
completely independent of one another."

I desire to see humans having some fun and I love it love it - but I also yearn for the stretch.

I feel that sometimes my work is so unachievable.
So I set low targets because I have such high expectations.
I yearn for the development of humans;
~me
~others.

It is not something I do to people.
I feel my job is a facilitator which stimulated
a climate of trust and sharing.

Get the right tone and stretch activity or question -
and humans pour out their souls.
The core.
The heart.
The journey of the visible human and the interior human.

That very act of humans sharing something from inside,
which has never before been tapped,
is a massive revelation to others present -
and,
more-so,
the mining-for-soul individual person themselves.

Only when we share with another
will the reality of our life become real.
Concrete.
Make sense.
The glory of God is a person fully alive.
also ........
The Glory of God is a person digging their
own well and
becoming .........

Always I have individuals who are tight.
Rolled and packaged to say nothing.
Emotional arms folded.
Legs crossed too!
It is fine if a group contains a few humans who trust me,
relaxed with themselves and at least a couple of others.
Climate is a virus = catching.

If the group has no such people,
the job is to 'ice break’
(don't like that term really)
or conduct an appropriate activity which is not silly for those present.
If it hits the right tone -
there is then a starting climate to move to different objectives.

Working with a mix of international people is sensitive -
I am no good with languages and those who know me would include English too.
But it is not just verbal.
The cultural norms of people in a group or crowd
can be as sensitive to handle as the speaking in different tongues.

The trouble with me -
I desire to see people having some fun and
love it love it -
but I also yearn for the stretch.
To myself and with others.

Eyes wide open.
To see one persons eyes
open wider
can be
a moment of wonder.

It can be one small thing.
They have seen.
They have experienced.
They (yes they) have said.

It is a flower opening to the sun.
It is is like a flower with droplets of rain -
like tears from the soul and I love it.

I am yearning for those droplets ….
.... and mainly that opening
of those delicate petals.
hmmmmmmm

The Department of Health rejected medical advice about providing NHS staff with certain protective equipment.

The Department of Health rejected medical advice about providing NHS staff with certain protective equipment during an influenza pandemic because stockpiling it would be too expensive, the Guardian can reveal.

Documents show officials working under the former health secretary Jeremy Hunt told medical advisers three years ago to "reconsider" a formal recommendation that eye protection should be provided to all healthcare professionals who have close contact with pandemic influenza patients.

The expert advice was watered down after an "economic assessment" found a recommendation about providing visors or safety glasses to all hospital, ambulance and social care staff who have close contact with pandemic influenza patients would "substantially increase" the costs of stockpiling.

The documents may help explain a shortage of protective gear in the NHS that is hampering efforts to manage the Covid-19 virus pandemic.

These haggard faces could belong to you or me

They have no need of our help
So do not tell me

These haggard faces could belong to you or me
Should life have dealt a different hand
We need to see them for who they really are
Chancers and scroungers
Layabouts and loungers
With bombs up their sleeves
Cut-throats and thieves
They are not
Welcome here
We should make them
Go back to where they came from
They cannot
Share our food
Share our homes
Share our countries
Instead let us
Build a wall to keep them out
It is not okay to say
These are people just like us
A place should only belong to those who are born there
Do not be so stupid to think that
The world can be looked at another way

Covid-19: Urgent message from UN Secretary General

Covid-19: Urgent message from UN Secretary General

Our world faces a common enemy: COVID-19.

The virus does not care about nationality or ethnicity, faction or faith. It attacks all, relentlessly.

Meanwhile, armed conflict rages on around the world.

The most vulnerable — women and children, people with disabilities, the marginalized and the displaced — pay the highest price.

They are also at the highest risk of suffering devastating losses from COVID-19.

Let’s not forget that in war-ravaged countries, health systems have collapsed.

Health professionals, already few in number, have often been targeted.

Refugees and others displaced by violent conflict are doubly vulnerable.

The fury of the virus illustrates the folly of war.

That is why today, I am calling for an immediate global ceasefire in all corners of the world.

Join the call for an immediate global ceasefire.

It is time to put armed conflict on lockdown and focus together on the true fight of our lives.

To warring parties, I say:

Pull back from hostilities.

Put aside mistrust and animosity.

Silence the guns; stop the artillery; end the airstrikes.

This is crucial…

To help create corridors for life-saving aid.

To open precious windows for diplomacy.

To bring hope to places among the most vulnerable to COVID-19.

Let us take inspiration from coalitions and dialogue slowly taking shape among rival parties in some parts to enable joint approaches to COVID-19. But we need much more.

End the sickness of war and fight the disease that is ravaging our world.

It starts by stopping the fighting everywhere. Now.

That is what our human family needs, now more than ever.

- UN Secretary General AntΓ³nio Guterres

An extract from a great Guardian article on Joe Wicks.

His mother was 17 when she had his brother,
19 when she had Joe;
his father was in and out of rehab for drug addiction.

"There was a lot of shouting, a lot of doors slammed,
we didn't sit down and have dinner together."
And yet, he says:

"One thing I had more than anything,
I had love and support from my mum and dad.

My mum used to say:

"I don't care if you become a dustman or a doctor,
you can be who you want."'

It is a powerful and unusual stance,
and it means ...............  he really gets imperfection -
human frailty, too much sugar, not enough lunges -
he gets that you can make Poor choices
without being a bad human being,
he is palpably nonJudgmental,
without ever saying;

"I'm not here to judge you."

I think viewers can smell that, at any age ..........

Never lend a £1

55 years of living / working with young people in hostels
I learned many things.

1 Never lend a £1 when asked -
but
ONLY give

because that young person will spend the rest of her/his life avoiding me which shatters any hard fought relationship.

Entering a helping relationship can be painstakingly slow without any £1 setback.

In my right hand jeans pocket I always carry a small model Giraffe, once a key ring fob

A Giraffe has the biggest heart of all animals and humans
(because it has to pump blood a long way to it’s head/brain.)

It also has the farthest vision of any animal
(because of its long neck & height )

We too need to have a big heart -
full of love for all people
AND
Have a clear vision beyond visibility.
