I love it when an older person marches for a younger person.
I love it when a comfortably-off person marches for the poorest.
I love it when someone weeps when they see injustice happening.
I love it when a white human marches for the rights of a black person.
I love it when a employed human demonstrates against unemployment.
I love it when when humans mix with humans of a different social group.
I love it when a human recognises oppression and does something about it.
I love it when comfortably housed human spends time with a homeless human.
I love it when humans of faith become a helping friend to a human of a different faith.
I love it when I see justice being lived, worked at, energised, beyond their own eyesight.
I love it when a human deliberately talks to another human who is dressed so very differently.


I love it when a human turns from self, and 'my own people', to live justly on behalf of all humankind in all the world.

There is now 35 Favourites::

I was in Bloomingdales in Chicago this morning,
three years ago,
and I picked up an email on my iPhone
from someone wanting to contact my friend Martin quickly
regarding John O'Donohue.
I forwarded it to him.
I flew home from Chicago
and then received the message
that our friend
John O'Donohue has died.

John was on holiday in France with the family of Kristine, a beautiful human he met at The Greenbelt Festival the previous August. They had become the closest of friends and were planning their future together.
I was there when Kristine and John met each other. Privilege.
I snapped a series of pictures and delighted in those moments of their first contact.
I was shocked.
I remain disturbed.
A tragic loss to the world -
to Kristine and
for me somewhat down the line in terms of friendship.

Poet, priest and philosopher,
John was a one-off,
the
warmest,
funniest,
wisest person
you could hope to meet.

My favourite book byJohn O'Donohue is
"Beauty: The Invisible Embrace,"
He writes::
"The human soul is hungry for beauty;
we seek it everywhere -
in landscape,
music, art,
clothes, furniture,
gardening, companionship,
love, religion,
and in ourselves. .
. We feel most alive
in the presence of the Beautiful
for it meets the needs of our soul."

I met him a number of times.
We talked always in a bar
or in my car.
Always with drink in hand
Always with a cigar.
He always wanted to know about me.
My journey
My mission
My stories.

I carried his umbrella
In my car
for one whole year
because he had left it
in a hurry to step before the crowd
of eager humans -
eager to listen to his words
his voice flowing like mercury
his stories
and, always,
his thunderous laughter.

May you consider
reading one of his book
NO - NOT READING
but sipping from the well
one page at a time
one paragraph at a time
one sentence
one word ..........
.. and allow them to linger
within your soul.

His last book, published after his death, is 'Benedictus'.
It's a book of blessings and this is just one of them.

I just started to reflect on life

It just happens as I strive to love

I had it once, before the faith began

I never wanted to be restless
I now choose it and yearn for it

but now I refresh that irritation

then I discovered it in ever sense

I never wanted to have a sense of humour
Then I discovered more than five senses

I discovered it was a strength not a weakness

I think she is rich beyond compare

I never wanted to be beautiful
It took me 40 years to know
I was a beautiful human person

I never wanted to be in a band
I now have a great band of friends

I never wanted to be imperfect
I now know it is in synergy with beautiful

I never wanted to be on a road less travelled
I discovered it goes along with human development

I never wanted to be a great lover
I found it as a life mission

I never wanted to be disabled
I learned that I have abilities and disabilities

I never wanted an idol, mentor, guru, then
I met someone who said follow me
And that was all I ever wanted...................."
