SPORT FOR homelessness, vulnerably housed, seeking asylum, minority groups / offenders / ex-offenders

STREET LIFE SOCCER IS BACK FOR 2013!
The project works with individuals and groups who may be experiencing one or more of the following: homelessness, vulnerably housed, seeking asylum, minority groups and offenders / ex-offenders.
Street Life Soccer also provides preventative work for those at risk of becoming homeless with the opportunity to learn new skills, gain qualifications and integrate with new peer groups, weekly football coaching and National Open Collage Network accredited training. This approach supports progression into further education, volunteering, training or employment.
Street Life Soccer uses football as the tool to engage participants and provide a routine that allows participants to access social and health benefits. All education elements are then linked back to the sporting disciplines required, allowing for key skills development. Participants have the opportunity to set goals for themselves, no matter how big or small and are given the support to monitor these progressions.
Participants also have the opportunity to earn sports clothing as part of a reward scheme and to play in regular, competitive tournaments.

James Blake 'a case of you' lyrics/VID. Beautiful. + JONI MITCHELL

Listen while you read!

Just before our love got lost, you said

"I am as constant as a northern star"
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness
Where's that at? If you want me I'll be at the bar"

On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada, oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice

You're in my blood, you're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid

I remember that time you told me
"Love is touching souls" but surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time

You're in my blood, you're my holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

I met a woman, she had a mouth like yours
She knew your life, she knew your devils
And your deeds, and she said
"Go to him, stay with him if you can
But be prepared to bleed"

You are in my blood, you're my holy wine
You're so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh, I would still be on my feet

PIP WILSON MUSIC Selection Box 2012.

I have at last finished my album of 2012.
Each year I put together  a list of favourite tracks from my eclectic taste in music.
It is not easy.
I could easily list a series of albums which hit me below the belt, in the Hard Drive in my head or in the centre of my chest - my soul. hmmmm
Music means so much to me. I listen to it most hours of the day.
Driving. Commuting. At my desk. On the sofa. Sometimes in bed.
I find it is magical. Spiritual. The vibes tunes melodies get to me .......... deep.

Selection Box 2012.
Here it is.
My chosen few from a massive range.
Emotional.
Uplifting music - for me.

My printer is dysfunctional.
I cannot print the label as normal.
I don't know how to use dropbox and send one too you.
I can't afford to mail out CD's
(and cassettes back in the day!)
as I have done for 20 years .......

“I had never actually listened to a Muslim share about Islam."

Brian McLaren

Brian McLaren looks back on his recent tour

Greenbelt recently hosted Brian McLaren on a tour to various locations in England in support of his new book Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha, and Mohammed Cross the Road? Here, he looks back on his history with Greenbelt, and his time with us at the end of last year…
My first Greenbelt was ten or so years ago. I had a day to take in the festival before I had to speak and so I wandered around, taking it all in. Some tents with crafts. Some young singer-songwriters. A reading of a play. It was all good.
Then I wandered into a crowded room in which an anti-globalist/feminist/Muslim/activist was speaking. She was brilliant. She was intense. Her perspective was far different from anything I had heard before. I was hooked. Where else could I go to experience anything like this?
By the time I left, I had made some new friends, met some new mentors, discovered some new artists – all of whom are part of my life today. No wonder those few days turned me into a devotee of Greenbelt.
This history made my fall tour with Greenbelt all the more meaningful. It was wonderful to think that I could be part of bringing a mini-Greenbelt experience to folks across England (London, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Bristol, and Southampton). Great music (thanks to Jasmine, Gareth, and Miriam) ensured that the events would be more than talking heads. And great conversation partners guaranteed that people would not just hear a talk about a book about encountering the other, but that they would actually encounter people from Muslim and Jewish faith traditions… in person.
Several times people came up to me after the event and said, “I had never actually listened to a Muslim share about Islam. I had only heard Christians talking about Islam,” or “I had never really considered how Christian words and symbols would feel to a Jewish person, but tonight, I felt it.”
Over the last few years, I’ve had the privilege of dreaming with some friends about how a Greenbelt-ish festival can be transplanted from Cheltenham Racecourse to the US. (The dream has begun coming true, under the name Wild Goose Festival.) By participating in the “Peace, Love, and Misunderstanding Tour,” I got to see how Greenbelt is transplanting its creative mischief and conspiracies of kindness from a raceway in August into cities across England all year long. It’s thrilling to think what Greenbelt will be and do in the 40 years ahead.
Thanks to all who came – and thanks for inviting me to Greenbelt, a decade ago and a few months ago.
