.... I am at my conference and the news came through about the bombs in London and the conference gathered in the same room where we had jumped up and down in response to the Olympic news.
The room was still. Mobile phones pressed to ears. Still expressions and tight skin. Tense thin lips.
The odd whispered word. Eyes fixed on the tv and every slither of information ............
Have you ever been in a Conference when it stops to pray and tears flow?
I have.
Now.
I had spoke to Joan at home as the news broke here. Joy, working in the dead centre of London, was evicted from a tube train and was worried because she was late for work. I am certain she is not worried about that now.
Me ........ I am disturbed about the impact on humans in terms of life and death ..... and injury ...... and shock. Then I am concerned about the impact on the way we manage our society ......... the way we govern ...... that means our own country and those in the rest of the world.
Maybe it is good that the G8 is meeting together now. They will feel it first before they launch into opinions and strategy. It must not detract from the Africa issues and the issue of Trade ....... but it is vital that they FEEL as humans for and as humans. I pray for them. I ask that they tap the depth of wisdom - human and eternal.
How will the conference conclude?
As the chief speaker at the end of conference dinner tonight - what will I say?
