Man's Search for Meaning.

A prisoner can be reminiscent of what
Viktor Frank writes in his book,
'Man's Search for Meaning',
about his fellow prisoners in the Nazi concentration camp at Dachau.

Some of these prisoners, who yearned so desperately for their freedom,
had been held captive so long that, when they were eventually released,
they walked out into the sunlight, blinked nervously and then
silently walked back into the familiar darkness of the prisons
to which they had been accustomed for such a long time.

"More than 90 percent
of all the prisoners
in our  prisons
have been abused
as children."
John Powell

Frankl's concentration camp experiences thus shaped both his therapeutic approach and philosophical outlook,
as reflected in his seminal publications.
He often said that even within the narrow boundaries of the concentration camps
he found only two races of men to exist:
decent and unprincipled ones.

These were to be found in all classes, ethnicities, and groups.
Following this line of thinking, he once recommended that the Statue of Liberty on the East coast of the US
be complemented by a Statue of Responsibility on the West coast,
and there were reportedly plans to construct such a statue.

Another important conclusion for Frankl was:
If a prisoner felt that he could no longer endure the realities of camp life,
he found a way out in his mental life
– an invaluable opportunity to dwell in the spiritual domain,
the one that the SS were unable to destroy.

Spiritual life strengthened the prisoner,
helped him adapt,
and thereby improved his chances of survival.

This book by Frankl, I find, is one of the best books for a prisoner to read.
It is about survival and becoming.
It is about living a healthy mental and spiritual existence.
When the body is trapped.
We can live positively in our head.

QUOTE::
On 25 September 1942, Frankl, his wife and his parents were deported to
the Nazi Theresienstadt Ghetto.
There Frankl worked as a general practitioner in a clinic.
When his skills in psychiatry were noticed,
he was assigned to the psychiatric care ward in block B IV,
establishing a camp service of "psychohygiene" or mental health care.
He organized a unit to help newcomers to the camp overcome shock and grief.
Later he set up a suicide watch, assisted by Regina Jonas.[2][6] On 29 July 1943,
Frankl .... offered a series of open lectures, including
"Sleep and Sleep Disturbances",
"Body and Soul",
"Medical Care of the Soul",
"How to keep my nerves healthy?"

I have tested out his conclusion in some everyday circumstances.
Some stressful circumstances.
Thinking of the positives to come.
Not dwelling on the positives of the past.
Beyond Beyond Beyond - the now.

MORE ABOUT HIM::
On 19 October 1944, Frankl and his wife Tilly were transported to the Auschwitz concentration camp,
where he was processed.
He was moved to Kaufering, a Nazi concentration camp affiliated with Dachau concentration camp,
where he arrived on 25 October 1944.
There he was to spend 5 months working as a "slave-laborer".
In March 1945, he was offered to be moved to the so called rest-camp Türkheim, also affiliated with Dachau.
He decided to go to Türkheim, where he worked as a doctor until 27 April 1945,
when Frankl was liberated by the Americans.

QUOTE
"The salvation of man is through love and in love."

Viktor Frankl

we are afraid of the unknown

The greatest friend of the soul is the unknown.
Yet we are afraid of
the unknown
because it lies outside our
vision and our control.
We avoid it or quell it by
filtering it through our protective barriers
of domestication and control.
The normal way never leads home."

A Definition of YOUTH.

A definition of a youth.

A youth is a person who is going to carry on what you have started.
She is going to sit right where you are sitting, and, when you are gone, attend to those things which you think are important.
You may adopt all the policies you please, but how they will be carried out depends on her.
She will assume control of your cities, counties, and nations.
She is going to move and take over your churches, schools, youth work, universities and corporations.
All your books are going to be judged, praised or condemned by her.
The fate of humanity is in her hands.
So it might be well to pay her some attention!

I have had my Juke Box mended today. 1950 Rock-Ola

I have had my Juke Box mended today.
1950 Rock-Ola which I have had since late 60's when I was running a Rockers Club.
I bought it for £25 quid all battered and bruised.
Since then it has been with me in East London at the Mayflower, Romford YMCA
(I remember it going up in the lift to our 2nd floor flat when we moved in with the Sheilas/Gloria and two cats! - 11 floors in total at this Y)

I have a real attachment to it. Humans first - then Juke Box!
It was kicked to death in the East End. It had to have a plywood from and plastic glass to survive.
It was refurbished three and a half years ago for a special birthday of mine but got itself  jammed this last year so became out of use - but now...................!

It illuminates my office and has a sound to die for - what a bass. I will have to see if I can get any dubstep on 7' vinyl - I love the bass.

Anyway - enough swooning - I must kick on ..........

MAKING LOVE.

Pip Wilson
Workshops –
Feedback from participants::

I love running workshops called

'Making Love'
-----------------------------------

This was GREAT FUN!

At a festival with so many people
you often feel that you’ve sort of you
and end up dissatisfied with yourself,
like you want to be one of them...
This workshop made me feel happy!
It’s great to be able to be so open with total strangers,
though it felt kind of embarrassing at first.
A BRILLIANT IDEA TO HAVE SOMETHING LIKE THIS
AT A BIG FESTIVAL!
THANK YOU!

Thank You
It was a wonderful session, it went straight in to my heart!
You really put your finger on really important issues of being a human being.

Thank you for an interesting workshop!
You have opened up my mind a bit –
I really needed it!
All the best to you

Thanky you for a very inspired session.
I feel that I have met a lot of interesting people with issue.
Maybe next time I will open up a little more.
Greetings Karen

Dear Pip
I loved your workshop.

Keep on your good work.
Most God be with you and bless your work
Nina from Norway

Justin
Great session – I get something different every time!
I am on God’s football pitch –
just about to score,
the goal mouth is open and I’m running forward.
I am terrified to kick the ball…

I feel happy
It was funny.

Hi!
This was funny
Nice to meet new people and talk with them!
Siv!

Olga Samarova, 34 Teacher at Moscow State University
It’s an inspiring workshop,
helpful for building relationships and self-awareness.
Lots of simple tips that can lead to important things.
Very expertly done.
Thank you so much!

Thanks, it has been a funny and personal playing.
I like these elements we played with very much and hopefully
I can integrate them in my work/programme YMCA

Bodil Jørgensen, Denmark

Feelings:
Sad – Mum poorly
Happy – Being here
Supported – YMCA partner
Loved – family at home
Ready – for furniture at home
Lonely – don’t always share thoughts and feelings

My name is Majina.
I am from Russia.
I feel no good myself after your workshop.

My name is Helen
I enjoyed your workshop –
it was amazing to meet people and think and share about feelings.
This felt like a very rare thing.
Thank-you!

Hannah
I found a way of God being relevant in my life
having previously rejected him.

Hi!
I thought the session was one of the best so far
because of the openness “thing”,
if you understand.
You have to do this much more to learn people,
how to love.
Sincerely
Erien & Z Møller

Stefan Amlie
Hmm, I feel lighter somehow…
more happy,
maybe more satisfied?
I don’t know,
but I really enjoyed our hour together,
I go a lot of inspiration.
You’re great!
Stefan

This was great!
I feel much better after this workshop.
Thank You.

I think this workshop was excellent and I really mean that.
It was good because we talked about personal and important things,
but it was also fun to hug people and music was beautiful.

Mission Statement CHRISTIAN AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

Every job I have taken on over the years I have composed a Mission Statement.
This job was a six months job filling in for someone on sabbatical.
It was when I left my full time job nearly ten years ago, to go freelance.
I was as CSD Lead worker with YMCA England.

Here it is - have a go at one for your job. It helps to focus on mission not tasks only.

Mission Statement
CHRISTIAN AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT

The mission of the CSD unit is to support  the development of
all individuals within the YMCA,
Individual YMCA communities and
the English YMCA movement:-

·      To create a Buzz in YMCA England individual YMCA Communities
about wholistic development which includes opportunities and
faith development.
