Battle of Visions at Greenbelt 2013

If you’ve ever wanted to give instant feedback during a debate, the Battle of the Visions is your chance; prepare to be persuaded or to be the persuader…
Greenbelt is full of discussion, full of discovery. Over the weekend, there is a multitude of talks and debates on a wide range of topics and a real desire to involve you, the audience. So what’s different about the Battle of the Visions? It’s the instant and visible feedback, in the form of a Human Venn Diagram.
Three people will pitch their position and by attracting the largest crowd, they win. But, you move towards or away from them while they’re talking – instant feedback!
There will be two battles over the weekend: on Saturday we ask what should influence those that run the country – Faith (Jim Wallis), Arts (Sara Kewly Hyde) or Justice (Symon Hill)?’; on Monday, we ask what subjects schools should include – social sciences (Eric Kaufman), physics (Helen Arney) or do away with subjects all together (Mark Stevenson)?’
So, what do you think? What’s important to you? Is it the inspiration of the arts, a drive to eradicate injustice or a spiritually based society. And, how should we educate our youth in order to move us forward – through the study of science, the study of society or as good all-rounders?
“The Battle of the Visions is a fun and informal way to discuss big ideas in a truly interactive way with a large audience. It’s like a democracy mashed-up with comedy, science and dash of summer optimism. Perfect!” Mark Stevenson, author of An Optimist’s Tour of the Future and back for a second year of battle.
