Pavarotti died yesterday ... ... ..
.... so the nearest I got to Pavarotti was .. .. .. Joan me and the Sheilas were on holiday in Italy some years ago.

By chance, or not, U2 were playing a gig in the searing heat of an Italian football stadium in Modena - the home town of Pavarotti.

We climbed the tower in the middle of the field - right there on the mixing desk and the lighting rigs.

The Sheilas struggled not to show their knickers to the 40000 crowd as we climbed high above them to face full-on the Joshua Tree Tour stage.

We saw the Joshua Tree Tour gig there and I remember the Modena concert well.
I have a four foot wide framed pic of the stage (and I tuck all my movie, rugby and concert tix stubs in it - I will find a pic for you).

I remember holding and operating the bands own video camera which was filming the show in Modena as others around me did the less important tasks like the light show and the sound .......

Pavarotti was not there and I did not meet him - just visit his city ..... but lots of great memories .....

....fine memories in the sweltering heat ........... .....
....... I feel I need to re-visit the Madonna Restaurant in Venice - just to satisfy the Italian pasta yearning hmmmmm
