........ as of yet I have not said what my favourite album of 2004 is.

Over the w/e I have counted all my 2004 cd's ......... 22 in a pile.
Hmm - the dim person thought ..... some of my 'top of the pile' ones are not even here?
I searched the home and then da dimness faded and I looked at my Purchased-on-line list and - there I found a further 10 albums including some now in my top ten!
see some of them here;

Well here we go - decision time ....
1 For the first time ever I cannot decide on one winner. Last year I chose the Amie Winehouse album - in it's beautiful imperfection, because it was a stand out.
This year I have chosen in first place;
Mos-Def ..............'The New Danger"
Jill Scott ..............'Beautifully Human'

stuff is still being plumbed ...... it is beautiful and yet tough to listen to in parts ...... (it is hip hop after all.) It has some fab hooks and themes and some of the lyrics ....... like this bit in the Intro;

"Champion Requiem"
Peace, peace whats up y'all this is Mos Def
And this is a message to the people
If you see or hear goodness from me
Then that goodness is from The Creator
You should be thankful to The Creator for all of that
'Cause I'm not the architect of that
I'm only the...the recipient
If you see weakness or shortcoming in me
It's from my own weakness or shortcoming
And I ask The Creator and the people to forgive me for that
Thank you Brooklyn, Thank you World
Yeah, yeah there it is
Turn my voice up in the top a little bit
It feel good to be back"

A wonderful album if you are prepared to take the risk because you may not like it and will need multiple replays ........

Jill Scott
She asked me about the album title and I suggested 'Beautifully Human' ....... just jesting! But the title is perfect for me. Loveitloveit!
And the lead single from the album is sung with such gentle power and energy that reeks purpose and ...... freedom ..............
I played that track at Greenbelt 2004 when I entered a iPod x 3 trax competition ...... and it blew us all away ............. hear these lyric sample;

"I'm taking my freedom
Pulling it off the shelf
Putting it on my chain
Wearing it round my neck

Taking my freedom
Putting it in my car
Wherever I chose to go
It will take me far

I'm living my life like it's golden x 10

I'm taking my own freedom
Putting it in my song
Singing it loud and strong
Moving all day long
I'm bagging my freedom
putting it in my soul
I'll be be happy with y'all
Letting my joy unfold

I'm loving my life it's Golden x 10

I'm holding on to my freedom
Can't take it from me
I was born to it - comes naturally
I'm strumming my own freedom
praying to God in me
Representing his glory
hope he's proud of me"

I will have to go ...... I am getting emotional ............
....... I am living my life like it's GOLDEN ........
